BARC NW were extremely proud to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its Sports & Saloon Car Championship in 2023.

For the past 16 years, the Championship has been sponsored by Ric Wood’s CNC Heads, a name that has become synonymous with fantastic racing and large grids.

Another name synonymous with the Championship is John Leck who has coordinated the championship for 40 years! In addition, John is a valued member of the BARC NW committee, manages the Centre’s website, and is an Event Steward, so it seemed absolutely fitting to award John with the Jock Sinclair Trophy which is awarded for off-circuit performance. John received his award at the BARC NW Centre Dinner Dance in January.

His second presentation on the night was for all his efforts as co-ordinator of the Championship over the 40 years. This was in the form of a silver salver and a voucher for a weekend break (away from motor sports!). John was proud to receive this from Peter Gorrie, Eligibility Scrutineer of the Championship.

John was also recently presented with an award from the Association of North West Car Clubs with the presentation of the ‘Allan Dean-Lewis Scroll of Excellence’. The award goes to, according to words on the scroll, “a member of a club who has done most in an administrative capacity to further the name of Motor Sports in general, and the Club in particular.” This was presented by Mark Wilkinson, Chair of the ANWCC.

In other news, John has recently invested in shares in Brasso.
