CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship
Preview – Anglesey Rounds 9 - 11
Only one point separates Connor Modro and Lee Bull at top of the CNC Sports and Saloon Car Championship table, both having played the jokers. Modro has taken three successive wins in his Westfield, but he won’t be adding to his tally at Anglesey this weekend, as work commitments keep him away. As well as dominating Class E, Bull’s Renault Clio has had three top six finishers too.
Class A leader Simon Allaway has four other challengers this weekend. His V8 Lotus Esprit currently has a one point lead over Garry Wardle, who is back in his Audi A3 TCR, after racing a VW Golf GTi at Cadwell. Ric Wood is entered in a Ford Capri GAA and is joined my Duncan Aukland’s Proton Putra for his seasonal debut, and Modified Ford’s front runner Jim Hutchinson in his immaculate Escort RSR.
With Connor Modro missing from Class B, there are plenty of rivals, who will also be challenging for an overall podium. Ben Roberts Locost has already had two second place finishes at Oulton and Bod Buckby won both Croft races outright in his Caterham. Both Arron Armiger’s Vauxhall Tigra and Paul Masters’ Westfield are capable of challenging too. Masters is currently second in Class and has had four overall podiums, while Armiger made his racing comeback at Oulton, with a fourth and fifth, spectacularly finishing a wet race two in a lurid spin. Former Champion Jamie Cryer currently lies fourth in Class with his Ginetta G20, but he is up against Rob Wakelin’s Peugeot 205, Mark Primett’s Banks Lotus Europa, Thomas Frankland’s Renault 5GT Turbo, Chris Roberts’ Ginetta G40, Tim Foxlow’s Escort RSR, Deri Davies’ Darrian and Alek Modro’s Fiesta.
Class D leader Steven Parker is currently third in the Championship and the only one of the top four not to have played his joker yet. Oliver Thomas returns in his Subaru Impreza as does Clive Dix with his Mazda RX7, both having been absent from Cadwell. The Mini Challenge cars of Riccy Walker, second in class, and Ryan Nelson will have their own duel too, while David Jones will be looking for a finish in his Ford Focus. The BMW’s of Philip White and John Madoc Jones complete the class line-up.
Matthew Jones’ Focus heads the pursuit of Bull in Class E, he is currently sixth overall. Rob Phillips’ Honda Civic could cause an upset and he is joined by fellow Civic racer Stuart Connolly on his CNC debut. Paul Rotheroe is due back too in his Citroen Xsara, along with Peter Koukoulas’s Toyota MR2 and Julian Wood’s BMW Compact. While Louie Dobson follows in Father Paul’s footsteps and makes his racing debut in the family Fiesta ST150.
Helen Allen’s Fiesta Zetec S is the only Class F runner and there is no one in Class C.
Practice is on Saturday morning from 11.00 to 11.20, with qualifying 12.55 to 13.15 and race one at 4.20. Race two is on Sunday at 10.35, with the finale at 2.40, each race for 20 minutes duration.
