LEE BULL, TOM FRANKLAND AND CAVAN TAYLOR PRESENTED WITH ANNUAL AWARDS IN THE CNC HEADS SPORTS/SALOON CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

At the recent BARC North Western Centre’s Annual Dinner Dance, the Real Night Out, several annual trophy winners were announced. These being for the David Gledhill Driver of the Year, the Spirit of the Championship salver and the Jock Sinclair Newcomer of the Year.

The first of these, the Driver of the Year trophy, was awarded to Championship runner up, Lee Bull who competed in a Class E Renault Clio. This was Lee’s first season in the Championship. He was in the running for the overall title from his first outing at Croft with a double header class win, this was followed up with two more class wins. For a few minutes during the final round he had a hand on the title but a retirement foiled his title aspirations. The photograph shows Lee receiving the trophy from Championship Co-ordinator, Duncan Aukland.

The Spirit of the Championship was awarded to Tom Frankland in his Class B Renault 5 GT Turbo. Tom has been a regular for the last three seasons and although new to the series there is always a welcome at his ‘pitch’ and he has been instrumental in encouraging others to join this friendly, but competitive, Championship. Tom was unable to attend the Real Night Out as his wife presented him with a baby girl on the same day. Congratulations all around. Friend Adrian Simpson went up to collect the salver for Tom.

The final annual trophy was the Jock Sinclair Newcomer of the Year trophy which was won this year by Cavan Taylor in another Renault, this time a Class E Clio. Although Cavan ran a few times in 2023 he was considered a true Newbie to the Championship and excelled this season, competing ten times, finishing ten times with a best position of 2nd in class at Cadwell Park. Unfortunately Cavan was not present to receive the trophy, he will be presented with it at the4 earliest opportunity during the season.
